How to clean a Clogged Canon Printheads

Your printing experience may get compromised due to the clogged print heads. Clogged printheads can result in spreading of ink on the entire page and your page will become dirty. Even, you may not able to read the information printed on the page. This situation can be very disappointing especially when you are printing some important documents. Instead of replacing your printer, you can try the simple troubleshooting steps and resolve this issue.  Here are some simple troubleshooting steps to resolve clogged printhead error:

  • Open the properties menu of Canon printer and choose “maintenance tab”. Click on the “cleaning” icon and clean the suitable ink group by following on-screen instructions. You may need to repeat the steps multiple times to resolve the issue.
  • Select “Deep Cleaning” icon and if the deep cleaning does not resolve the issue, choose appropriate ink group again and perform deep cleaning by following the on-screen instructions. You may need to execute the process multiple times to get desired outcomes.  In case, cleaning and deep cleaning is not helping you out, manually clean the printhead. You should consult the technicians at Canon Printer Support to get instructions for cleaning the printhead specific to your printer model.
  • Open the printer cover and shift the print carriage to the central position.
  • Lift the lock for releasing the printheads and after that move the print head out of the cradle.
  • Clean the printhead with hot water. Now, remove any paper or ink stuck in the printhead and creating clogs in slits and holes. Rinse till it gets completely clean.
  • Remove the two screws from printhead ceramic plate.
  • Gently remove the ceramic plate from the printhead and rinse it with water. Keep rinsing until the water runs clear.
  • Rearrange the printhead.
  • Reinsert the cradle.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges.
  • Close the print cover.
